‘We will not obey’: Christian leaders threaten civil disobedience if Supreme Court legalizes gay marriage
“We will not obey.”
That’s the blunt warning a group of prominent religious leaders is sending to the Supreme Court of the United States as they consider same-sex marriage.
“We respectfully warn the Supreme Court not to cross that line,” read a document titled, Pledge in Solidarity to Defend Marriage. “We stand united together in defense of marriage. Make no mistake about our resolve.”
“While there are many things we can endure, redefining marriage is so fundamental to the natural order and the common good that this is the line we must draw and one we cannot and will not cross,” the pledge states.
“We’re sending a warning to the Supreme Court and frankly any court that crosses the line on the issue of marriage,” Staver told me.
He said that once same-sex marriage is elevated to the level of protected status – it will transform the face of society and will result in the “beginning of the end of Western Civilization.”
I love it! Finally the church makes a stand! This is what cultural push-back is all about. Think about it. The Supreme Court has justices who are put in place by either conservative or liberal administrations. In other words do we really think Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg won’t vote for gay marriage? Of course she will, as will Justice Sotomayor. The court is a stacked deck and like much of government it is manipulated by those who have a political ideology to uphold and promulgate.
The Supreme Court like Congress needs to be overhauled, as Justices are appointed for life and this means that once someone is selected and approved by Congress, they’re ideology is in place and thus if they are conservative or liberal they will most likely vote along those lines for the duration of their service.
This is the problem. Congress makes a big deal when someone is nominated to the Supreme Court. They essentially grill the person with hours of questions, and the media covers the proceedings. However, the persons core values, their paradigm remains in place long after the grilling is over. This is why the court splits along conservative or liberal lines, in a five to four split, on many issues.
First graders are now being subjected to accept transgendered children and while I understand the parents plight of the boy who thinks he’s a girl, what about the other children? http://www.cnn.com/2013/06/24/us/colorado-transgender-girl-school/ What about their rights?
It amazes me that we hear every detail about Bruce Jenner and his upcoming surgery but we don’t know how many of our soldiers were killed in Afghanistan or Iraq. Shame on the State controlled MEDIA!
Marriage between one man and one women is, in my opinion, the bulwark of western society. It remains the foundation of our culture. Polygamy, pedophilia, and gay marriage are not accepted nor should they be. While there is a segment of society that will look at the above statement and call me a homophobe, what are they defending? Why do most Americans agree that marriage is sacrosanct and is between a man and a women, not a union between Steve and Bob, or Jill and Kate.
In closing todays post. There is a time for push-back and I love the fact the church is waking up and drawing a line in the sand. While I do not believe in violent protest, like we see in Baltimore and Ferguson, there is a time for civil disobedience. There is a time to say that we will not adhere to laws that go against the core principles of what many of us hold dear. I hope the Justices are getting the message.
