– On Christ the Solid Rock I Stand

by Debbie McDaniel

Lots of headline news swirling around in our world these weeks. Terrorist attacks, negotiations with Iran, Supreme Court rulings, ISIS threats of more violence and evil. The images and stories can leave us overwhelmed with fear and worry, for our children, for our future, for believers, and for our nation.

Yet God’s Truth breaks through all that mess and worry. He breathes peace and assurance that no matter what, He still holds all things in His hands. He’s not anxiously pacing Heaven’s floors. He’s not thinking up a Plan B since Plan A didn’t work. He reminds us that He’s still in control, and is the security of our days.

“And He will be the stability of your times, A wealth of salvation, wisdom and knowledge; The fear of the LORD is his treasure.” Isaiah 33:6
Woke up with this old song in my mind, have been singing it all day, thinking about these words penned over 150 yrs. ago by the Pastor Edward Mote. Because no matter what generation we’re living in, they still hold true today. God’s word says this, “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.” Matt. 7:24

Lots of opinions and voices are out there for sure. Sometimes we just need to turn it all off and listen to the One voice who matters most.

These powerful words from an old hymn of days gone by, are filled with such truth, grace, and relevance still for this day, “My Hope is Built on Nothing Less…”

“My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand.
All other ground is sinking sand.”
He’s the Rock that won’t move.
He’s the Rock that won’t budge.
He won’t shift this way or that based on popular opinion.
He won’t ever sink or give way to defeat.

He is sure and safe, loving and gracious, forgiving and faithful, powerful and strong, and His words are Truth, bringing life and freedom.

He paid the price on Calvary’s cross, He took our sin and shame, bore it all, on our behalf, so that we could live free. The power of the Cross and the Resurrection of Jesus Christ broke the curse of death and shame. That’s what real love is. The ultimate sacrifice. Such huge, extravagant grace.
Resting there today.

On the Rock.
Hope you are too.

  1. And much of that news often seems unsettling.

Paul Godfrey cites God wanting us to have an expected end in Daniel Unsealed : World History’s Response to Biblical Prophecy.

Today, Thursday, July 23, 2015 A.D., is the 2,010th day in the 2,300 day cleansing period (which began January 10, 2010 A.D.) of Daniel 8:14; the 1,045th day in the 1,290 and 1,335 days periods of Daniel 12:11 & 12, respectively (which began September 12, 2012 A.D.).

Because of the different time zones, that is 288 days until the Day of the Lord. (Malachi 4:5)

    • I disagree with your time line, I believe the true Church of Christ’s Born Again Believers will be rapture prior to the 70th week of Daniel taking place. The 70th week of Daniel also referred to the Tribulation will last for 7 years and at its end Jesus will return to judge the nations and to set up His earthly Kingdom.

Jesus, God incarnate, manifest in the flesh, dwelt among men. He suffered and died by crucifixion, so that we, His creation, could have the opportunity to be reconciled with God, through our faith, and there is no greater love than that. God died for His creation, so that His creation could live in fellowship with Him, now and throughout eternity. That is a big deal, and so many people are indifferent to this fact and chose to discard it as insignificant or fictitious. However those of us who believe God and His written Word, and have accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour, know this to be true. We have been blessed tremendously for our faithfulness and this is why God will remove His Church before the time of terrible judgment and tribulation upon the entire earth. Because we believed Him, and we obeyed Him, and the rest of the world does not. Additionally the time of the Gentiles will be over, and God will turn His attention back to national Israel, for Daniel’s 70th week, to prepare them for the return of their Promised Messiah while simultaneously pouring out His wrath and judgment on the unbelieving world who has mistreated His Chosen People throughout history.

The first coming of Jesus Christ was in two stages, it stands to reason His second coming will be also.

Jesus was born in a stable in Bethlehem. It was a secret revealed only to a select few. Zacharias and Elizabeth, Joseph and Mary, Simeon and Anna, and some shepherds. Thirty years later, Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist in the Jordon River, and began His 3.5 year ministry. He later rode into Jerusalem on a donkey and presented Himself to Israel on Palm Sunday. He was crucified four days later on Passover just as was prophesied. The second stage of His first coming was not a secret but was in fact prophesied in the Scriptures that the Messiah would ride into Jerusalem on that exact day.

Jesus’ second coming is also in two stages. Jesus comes secretly to snatch away His bride in what the Church calls the Rapture. He does not come to earth at the time of the catching away of His Bride, we will meet Him in the air. Seven years later, after Daniels seventh week aka the seven year Tribulation is complete and prophecy fulfilled; Jesus returns back to earth with the armies of Heaven. He defeats the Antichrist and the false prophet at the Battle of Armageddon, He judges the nations at the Sheep and Goat judgment and He sets up His earthly kingdom.

We can calculate the second coming of the Lord but not the day of the Rapture which is imminent, meaning it could occur at any moment. [Matt 24:36; 25:13; Luke 12:40]

The seven year Tribulation/70th week of Daniel begins when the antichrist signs the peace treaty with Israel. 1260 days [3.5 years] later the antichrist breaks the treaty when He enters the Temple and declares himself to be God. Jesus will return 1260 days [42 months/3.5 years] from that day. [Daniel 9:27; Matt 24:15-21; 2 Thess. 2:4;]

  2. Save for your description of the “two stages” (I actually think you are feeling some remorse about the recent SpaceX disaster, even if you are unaware of it), you cite some ‘conventional’ rapture chronology.

Quoting Matthew 24:36 brings one abruptly to the reality of some sort of reliance upon private revelation, for Dei Verbum, the encyclical defining the Church’s Constitution on Divine Revelation, states clearly that no further public revelation is awaited, the Deposit of Faith has been given with such finality that a further description of private revelation is necessary to allow for an understanding of Christ’s Return.

Even taking that into account, how can anyone know when that “day or hour” has come?

If such occurrence is excluded from public revelation, that revelation which remains can only be private.

But the encyclical fits what happened to a T.

    Not even the angels knew.

But note that I use past tense.

Unless you can provide some actually data from another angel that states otherwise, Matthew 24:36 was fulfilled in the early morning/deep of the night of June 25, 1956 A.D. when I was resurrected unto my first breaths again as the resurrected angel of Exodus 23:20, yet I did not know that I was being resurrected (raptured), nor did I know of Matthew 24:36.

No one knew but the Father for the Son’s Sacrifice was 100%.

And I didn’t know I was being resurrected into the kingship of Daniel 8:23, 11:3-4, and 11:21, to cite four verses.

The grace of God brought me back into this world “as a thief in the night” into M-33, a prison cell in Chester County Farms Prison, into the conflict of Daniel 11.

I have met other resurrected souls : Judas Iscariot, Pontius Pilate, Mohammed, and Adam, here again, to cite four.

Studying other prophecy with these resurrected souls brought to public record the counting of the end of days, but it all began with private revelation.

One of the amazing things about arriving at this accurate account is what I’m calling the mirroring prophecy just prior to the start of the count.

Given in the 16th century, and again through private revelation, it foretold a 3 year, 7 month peace according to the Roman calendar, mirroring the 3 year, 7 month lunar reckoning (1,290 days) of Daniel 12:11.

The basis for the mirror centered upon the passing of the 2nd king of Persia (of the three) of Daniel 11:2.

The date of his incoherence marked the beginning of the mirror on February 12, 2009 A.D. as the 16th century prophecy foretold “the realm left to two”.

The resurrected Pontius Pilate referred to this mirroring as a “key”.

The 1,335th day is Ascension Sunday, May 8, 2016 A.D., another amazing thing in that the arrival at this had no prior planning on my part.

Of the few things that Jesus did say after his arrest, one statement was that He had always taught and preached openly.

I do not find His birth to be secret either, though it was necessary to avoid Herod’s edict and slip through the crowd because His hour had not yet come.

Putting prophecy into perspective, the Second Coming of Jesus Christ began in accord with Luke 1:76.

    • The Second Coming of the Lord is a future literal event according to the Scriptures. Jesus will return just as He left and the entire world will know He has come.

“Which also said, Ye men of Galilee why stand ye gazing up into heaven? This some Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen Him go into heaven.” [Acts 1:11 AKJB]

“I saw in the night visions, and, behold one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought Him near before Him. And there was given Him dominion and glory, and a kingdom that all people, nations and languages should serve Him: His dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away and His kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.” [Daniel 7:13-14 AKJB]

“The earth shall quake before them; and heavens shall tremble: the sun and the moon shall be dark, and the stars shall withdraw their shining: and the Lord shall utter His voice before His army: for His camp is very great: for He is strong that executeth His Word: for the day of the Lord is great and very terrible and who can abide it?” [Joel 2:10-11 AKJB]

“And His feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall move toward the north, and half of it toward the south.” [Zechariah 14:4 AKJB].

“For as the lightening cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be, for wheresoever the carcass is, there will eagles be gathered together. Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from the heaven, and the posers of the heavens shall be shaken: And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with poser and great glory.” [Matthew 24:27-30 AKJB]

“Jesus saith unto him, Thou has said: nevertheless I say unto you, hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.” [Matthew 26:64 AKJB]

“Behold, He cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see Him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of Him. Even so, Amen.” [Revelation 1:7 AKJB]

“And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and He tht sat upon Him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He doth judge and make war. His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns; and He had a name written, that no man knew, but He Himself. And He was clothed with a vesture dripped in blood: and His name is called The Word of God. And the armies which were in heaven followed Him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. And out of His mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it He should smite the nations: and He shall rule them with a rod of iron: and He treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And He hath on His vesture and on His thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.” [Revelation 19:11-16 AKJB]

As far as the Second Coming of the Lord Jesus Christ goes, the Bible couldn’t be plainer. Jesus will return exactly 2,520 days or seven prophetic years, [360 days = 1 year], from the day the 70th Week of Daniel also referred to as “the Tribulation”, begins. The 70th week of Daniel, will begin the moment the Antichrist signs a treaty guaranteeing the peace of Israel. [Daniel 9:27] The Second Coming of the Lord Jesus Christ will occur 2,520 days later.

It clearly states that Jesus will return 1260 days from the moment the Antichrist sits in the Temple of God and declares himself to be God. Because there exists both a known and an unknown date, many scholars have logically concluded that there must be two different events occurring–the rapture and the second coming.

“But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only…Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour our Lord doeth Come.” [Matthew 24:36, 42 AKJB]

Thus, the Scripture referring to not knowing the day or the hour, must apply to the Lord’s appearing at the Rapture of His Church, not His Second Coming. When we realize that the Return of the Lord Jesus Christ comes in two stages, seven years apart, the Scriptures fall into place and make perfect sense.

“WATCH THEREFORE: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched and would not have suffered his house to be broken up. Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.” [Matt 24: 42-44 AKJB]

There is also a special favor for those really waiting and watching for Jesus to return. The Lord Himself is actually going to serve a meal to those who are watching and waiting for Him to return.

Jesus said “BLESSED are those servants, whom the Lord WHEN HE COMETH SHALL FIND WATCHING: verily I say unto you, that He shall gird Himself, and make them to sit down to meat, and will come forth and serve them. And if He shall come in the second watch, or come in the third watch, and find them so, BLESSED ARE THOSE SERVANTS…BE YE READY THEREFORE ALSO: for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not.” [Luke 12:37-38, 40 AKJB]

And when these things begin to come to pass, then LOOK UP, and lift up your heads; you’re your REDEMPTION DRAWETH NIGH.” [Luke 21:28 AKJB]

There is a Crown of Righteousness for those who are eagerly looking for His appearing.

“Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but UNTO ALL THEM ALSO THAT LOVE HIS APPEARING.” [2 Tim 4:8 AKJB]

Paul, in his letter to the Thessalonians wrote that born again believers could and should know the times and seasons of the Lord Jesus Christ’s Second Coming since we are not in the darkness like others, we are to watch and be sober!

“But of the TIMES AND SEASONS, brethren, ye have not need that I write unto you. For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. For when they shall say Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. Ye are all the children of light and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as do others, but let us WATCH AND BE SOBER.” [I Thes 5:1-6 AKJB]

“But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and WATCH unto prayer.” [I Peter 4:7 AKJB]
