The sad truth is that many people who leave this earth will not go to Heaven. They will go to Hell. The Bible tells us in Revelation 20:15, “And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.”
The question is why do people go to Hell? The Bible teaches us that we are all sinners and because we are all sinners, we all deserve to go to Hell. However, the Bible teaches us very clearly that Jesus Christ loves this world. In John 3:16, John testifies that God the Father, “so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” 1 John 2:2 also teaches, “And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.”
John the Baptist announced the coming of Jesus in John 1:29, “Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.” Jesus made a way for everyone to get to Heaven. We must simply believe that He is God, He died to pay for our sins, He was buried; and three days later He rose from the dead. We must ask Him to give us eternal life. In Romans 10:13 states, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” The following are some Biblical reasons that will answer this question?
1 – They refuse the Savior.
In Hebrews 2:3 it asks, “How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him”. If people refuse the free gift of salvation, there is no other choice than for them to suffer in Hell and pay for their own sin.
2 – They believe in the wrong god.
In Acts 4:12 is states, “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” Allah will not get them to Heaven. Baal will not get them to Heaven. The myriad of gods that are claimed by the Hindus will not get them to Heaven. If people trust in the wrong god, they will wind up going to Hell.
3 – They will not listen to the prophets.
In Luke 16, the rich man who was in Hell begged Abraham to send Lazarus back from the dead to warn his brothers. Abraham’s response was let them listen to the prophets. The rich man said, “They won’t listen to the prophets.” Preachers all over this world proclaim that Jesus Christ is God and that salvation comes only through Him, yet people refuse to listen to them and henceforth they will go to Hell.
4 – They will not admit that they are sinners and deserve Hell.
1 John 1:8-10 states, “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.” God will forgive and cleanse anyone who will confess his sin to Him. However, when a person refuses to admit his sin is sin, then he cannot get saved and will wind up going to Hell.
5 – They cannot keep the Ten Commandments.
Galatians 2:16 teaches, “by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.”No one that is born from the seed of Adam will ever be able to keep the law. The Bible teaches us that we are born sinners. Therefore, we need a Savior. Since we cannot keep the law, those who reject the Savior will wind up going to Hell.
6 – They trust their own good works.
Titus 3:5 says, “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us…” No one can get to Heaven by good works. They can try, but they will fail.
7 – They trust their religion.
Religion will not save. The preachers in Matthew 7:21, were trusting their religion and their religious works to save them. Yet, their religion could not save them. Years ago, I read a story about Robert Kennedy, clinging to rosary beads as he lay dying. The rosary beads had to be pried from his dead hands. If he was trusting in the rosary beads to get him to Heaven, he did not make it. Religion cannot get us to Heaven, only Jesus can.
8 – They are spiritually dead.
Ephesians 2:1 states, “And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins”. The Bible teaches us very clearly that we inherited spiritual death from Adam. The first time we were born, we were born with a living body and a living soul. However, our spirit was dead. John 4 teaches us that in order to communicate with God we must be spiritually alive. John 3 teaches us that the only way we can become spiritually alive is by being born again of the Spirit. It doesn’t matter how good or bad a man is, if he is spiritually dead, he is separated from God and Heaven. His soul cannot go to Heaven unless he becomes spiritually alive. The only the way he can become spiritually alive is by receiving Christ’s Spirit. That happens when a person admits he is a sinner, calls on Jesus for salvation, and asks Jesus to give him eternal life. At that moment, his spirit becomes alive and he has access to Heaven.
People go to Hell because they are spiritually dead, separated from God, and there is no other place for their lost soul to go.
No one needs to go to Hell because Jesus died to pay for our sin. If we will accept that truth, call on Him, ask Him for salvation, we can know we are going to Heaven. If you never received Christ, receive Him today. If you have received Christ tell other people this great news.
